Reflection
In today’s Gospel, Jesus laments the hardness of heart of His generation. John the Baptist came with fasting and discipline, and they said he was possessed. Jesus came eating and drinking, and they dismissed Him as a glutton and drunkard. The problem was not with John or Jesus — it was with the people’s unwillingness to listen. When hearts are closed, no message is enough.
This passage is a mirror for us today. How often do we reject God’s word because it doesn’t fit our preferences? We want God to speak on our terms, in our style, with our timing. Yet, true wisdom is not about bending God’s message to our taste, but allowing our hearts to be shaped by His truth. Jesus reminds us: “Wisdom is vindicated by all her children.” In the end, a life lived faithfully will prove the wisdom of God.
Paul’s words to Timothy highlight the mystery of our faith: Christ was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, proclaimed among the nations, and taken up in glory. This is the wisdom of God made visible — a wisdom that may look foolish to the world, but is the power of salvation.
The psalm invites us to “give thanks to the Lord with all our heart.” Gratitude is the posture that opens us to wisdom, freeing us from cynicism and pride so we can receive God’s message with humility.
Prayer
Lord, soften my heart to hear Your voice, whether it comes in challenge or in comfort. Teach me to welcome Your wisdom, even when it disrupts my expectations. Let my life reflect the mystery of Christ I profess.
Amen.
Today’s Challenge
Reflect: Have you been dismissing God’s voice because it came through an unexpected person or circumstance?
Spend a few minutes in gratitude today — wisdom begins with a thankful heart.
