Daily Reflection: Friday, Septemer 19, 2025
Friday of the 24th Week in Ordinary Time
Readings:
1 Timothy 6:2–12
Psalm 49:6–7, 8–10, 17–18, 19–20
Luke 8:1–3
Reflection
In today’s first reading, Paul exhorts Timothy to flee the traps of greed and pursue righteousness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. He warns that the love of money is a root of many evils — not wealth itself, but the disordered desire for it. Contentment, he says, is the true gain, for we brought nothing into this world and can take nothing out.
The psalm echoes this truth: wealth cannot redeem a life, nor can it accompany us beyond the grave. Only God’s love endures forever. Our worth is not in possessions, but in belonging to Him.
In the Gospel, Luke gives us a glimpse of Jesus’ ministry on the road — proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom with the Twelve and with women disciples like Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Susanna, who supported Him out of their means. Their faithfulness, courage, and generosity remind us that discipleship is not passive. It calls us to active service, sacrificial giving, and courageous witness.
Together, the readings call us to simplicity and service: to resist the lure of possessions and instead invest our lives in Christ’s mission. True gain is not found in storing wealth, but in spending ourselves for the Kingdom.
Prayer
Lord, free my heart from the love of money and the anxiety of possessions. Give me contentment in You, and courage to serve You with all that I have. Like the women who followed You, may my life and resources advance Your Kingdom.
Amen.
Today’s Challenge
Practice contentment today: thank God for what you already have, rather than longing for what you lack.
